What is a Golf Ball Drop?

If you’re looking for a fun and exciting way to raise funds for your next golf tournament, the golf ball drop raffle is it! This event can be added to your next fundraising tournament as a way to keep your participants engaged while ensuring you’re able to raise as much money as possible for your cause. We’re always on the lookout for the best fundraising ideas so that you can make the most of every charity tournament. The golf ball drop is fun, exciting, and maximizes funds.

There are many different ways to operate a golf ball drop for your event, and they depend on the format of your tournament and the venue hosting the event. However, the basic principle is the same. You have a set number of golf balls you’re going to drop from an elevated object or structure, and every ball has a unique sequential number. Numbers are sold to the participants. The closest ball to the target wins!

Simple yet exciting.

Imagine that you bought a pre-numbered golf ball and were watching as it was dropped from an elevated position onto prime green real estate, the excitement of the crowd grows, and you are the winner! What an incredible experience for all involved. This simple yet exciting concept ensures that every participant that bought a pre-number ball has as much fun as possible. We have made this fundraiser simple and easy, here is how it works.

How does a golf ball drop work?

Sell the balls! Before the start of your event, or even during the registration process for the participants and guests, you give them an opportunity to purchase as many balls as they would like. Some venues prefer to limit the number of balls in the drop and golf balls one person can buy. This allows you to sell them for a premium price per ball. It is important to sell all of the golf balls in the drop. It would be quite the letdown if the closest ball to the target was unclaimed. Before the event, be sure to plan on who will be the one in charge of dropping the balls, in most cases the event tries to get a local celebrity to participate.

Pick the Green!

Now that you’ve sold the balls, you need to figure out where you’re going to drop them. In most cases, you’ve done this already! But picking the green or location of the drop can be critical to the success of your event. For example, if you choose a green near the clubhouse, you can turn a simple ball drop into a party complete with food trucks, live music, and more!

Pick the method of drop!

Many courses love doing ball drops from hydraulic lifts. Other lower cost options are from trucks beds, ladders, or custom built elevated structures. The idea is to ensure all the balls fall from above and onto the green below. Whichever ball rolls closest to the target wins!

What about prizes?

Prizes can range from anything, really. It’s the dealers’ choice. Your event committee or director will lay out what type of prizes there will be. Typically, the top award is splitting half of the money raised by selling the balls with the charity. If you do it right, you can encourage the winner to donate their winnings then back to the charity as a total tax write-off. Another effective type of prize is to offer lots of chances to win smaller cash prizes in addition to the grand prize. Think about it this way, the more chances a ball buyer has to win, the more they’re going to buy!

Tips?

Maximize your sales by selling balls outside of just the event itself. One of the best ways to increase the number of balls sold is to offer deals in advance of the tournament. You’re already going to be announcing and promoting the event, so why not be sure that the ball drop is the featured event that everyone can participate!
